Nuclear Fission and Fusion Steels Conference

11.00hrs Monday June 8th – 13.30hrs Tuesday June 9th 2009
The UK Institute of Materials and UKAEA are jointly organizing a "24 hour" topical meeting on "Nuclear Fission and Fusion Steels: Fundamentals and Applications" at UKAEA Culham Science Centre. The objective of this special topical meeting is to assess the present status of knowledge about the current generation of nuclear steels, their properties, microstructure, and performance. The meeting will aim at identifying the knowledge-based routes for improving both the high temperature strength of steels and their radiation stability. The format of the meeting will be centred around invited presentations structured as tutorial reviews on various aspects of development and characterisation of steels.

Programme
The programme of the meeting will also include a special discussion session facilitated by leading experts in the development and applications of nuclear fission and fusion steels, and a poster session scheduled for the entire duration of the meeting. The PROGRAMME of the topical meeting is available here.

The organisers see this meeting as an opportunity for established experts to meet in an informal environment, discuss recent developments with colleagues, and present a poster. For students, graduate students, company representatives, and academics, the meeting will provide a way for establishing contact with experts and peers to become involved in the important field of nuclear fission and fusion materials science and technology.

The organisers cordially invite the participants to join them at a dinner at St Cross College, Oxford, in the evening of Monday 8th June.
